The release of EA SPORTS FC 27 player ratings has ignited conversations across the gaming community, especially among those who follow the beautiful game closely. This year's attacking midfielder rankings deliver a clear signal: the torch is passing to a new generation, with Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham claiming the top spot over Argentine icon Lionel Messi.
Bellingham's 90 overall rating is built on a blend of physicality and technical skill that has become his trademark. With 88 dribbling, 86 shooting, and an imposing 85 physical stat, the English midfielder embodies the modern box-to-box playmaker. His ability to drive forward, hold off defenders, and finish chances makes him a nightmare for virtual defenses and a top pick for Ultimate Team managers looking to dominate the midfield.
Messi, now plying his trade at Inter Miami, sits second with an 89 overall. His card remains a testament to his enduring genius: 90 dribbling, 89 passing, and 87 shooting. While the Argentine's technical mastery is unmatched, the ratings gap highlights how the game—and football itself—has evolved to prize athleticism alongside artistry. For fans who grew up watching Messi redefine the sport, seeing him edged out by a younger star might sting, but it also reflects the natural cycle of the game.
Top ten shake-ups and notable moves
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes shares the 89 overall rating with Messi, thanks in part to a category-leading 92 passing stat. The Portuguese playmaker remains a reliable creative hub, and his inclusion in the top tier underscores his consistency in both real life and the virtual pitch.
Further down the list, Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala stands out with an 87 overall and a joint-best 90 dribbling rating, showcasing the kind of close control that makes him one of the most exciting young talents in Europe. Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz follow at 86, each bringing their own flair to the midfield.
The ratings also reflect significant transfer updates, most notably Kevin De Bruyne's move to Napoli. The Belgian maestro, now 85 overall, will orchestrate attacks from the heart of the Serie A side, and his passing stats remain among the best in the game. It's a reminder that even as new stars rise, the old guard still has plenty to offer.
Rising stars and Ultimate Team strategies
The top fifteen attacking midfielders include a mix of established names and breakout prospects. Cole Palmer, Fermín López, and Paulo Dybala all sit at 85, providing solid options for players building their squads early in the game cycle. Meanwhile, Kenan Yildiz, Eberechi Eze, Nico Paz, Morgan Rogers, and Phil Foden round out the group at 84, each offering unique skill sets that can fit various tactical approaches.
For Ultimate Team enthusiasts, these ratings are more than just numbers—they shape the meta. The emphasis on physicality in Bellingham's card, combined with the dribbling prowess of players like Musiala and Messi, suggests that successful midfield builds will need a balance of power and finesse. As the community dives into the new season, expect to see a variety of formations and strategies emerge, all centered around these top-rated playmakers.
This shift in the virtual hierarchy mirrors broader trends in real-world football, where athleticism and versatility are increasingly prized. Yet, as Messi continues to dazzle in MLS, his presence in the top tier serves as a reminder that technical brilliance never truly goes out of style. For Latino fans, seeing Messi still competing at the highest level—even in a video game—is a point of pride, and his rivalry with Bellingham adds another chapter to the sport's ever-evolving narrative.
