It was a night of frustration for Tigres UANL at Estadio Olímpico Universitario. A late equalizer from Juan Brunetta salvaged a 1-1 draw against Pumas UNAM, but the result did little to ease the pressure on the Monterrey side as the Apertura regular season winds down.

The draw leaves Tigres with no margin for error. With just three matches remaining, the northern club must navigate a brutal closing stretch that includes visits to Pachuca and Cruz Azul, and a home finale against league leaders Club América. Anything less than a strong finish could mean watching the playoffs from home—a scenario that would be unacceptable for a club with Tigres' ambitions.

A demanding road ahead

The first test comes at Estadio Hidalgo, where Pachuca awaits. Despite an inconsistent campaign under Benjamín Mora, Los Tuzos remain dangerous at home, especially with Salomón Rondón leading the line. The veteran striker already tormented Tigres earlier this season, scoring twice in a 2-1 win at El Volcán. Tigres will need to shore up their defense to avoid a repeat.

Next up is a home clash against Cruz Azul, the reigning champions. La Máquina have struggled under interim management, but they still boast quality throughout the squad. The recent history between these two in Monterrey is striking: the last three meetings have all ended 1-1. Tigres will be desperate to break that pattern and take all three points.

The regular season concludes with a blockbuster against Club América at El Volcán. Las Águilas have already secured a top seed, but they won't be taking their foot off the gas—they beat Tigres 3-1 in their last visit to Monterrey. For Tigres, this could be a win-or-go-home scenario, and the atmosphere promises to be electric.

Beyond the immediate results, Tigres must address structural issues that have plagued them all season. The midfield has lacked creativity at times, and the defense has been prone to lapses. Coach Veljko Paunović will need to find the right balance quickly, while relying on his star players—like Brunetta and André-Pierre Gignac—to deliver in clutch moments.

For a club built on sustained success, missing the playoffs would be a major disappointment. The pressure is on, but Tigres have the talent to rise to the occasion. The next few weeks will define their season.
