Billboard has named Rosalía its Latin Woman of the Year for 2026, recognizing her ability to merge flamenco tradition with forward-thinking pop. The Catalan artist, however, will not be on hand to accept the award in person at the April 23 ceremony broadcast by Telemundo.

The honor comes as Rosalía continues to dominate stages worldwide with her LUX Tour, a sold-out run across Europe. On the same night as the gala, she is scheduled to perform at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Following that, she will move through Belgium, Germany, and England before bringing the tour to the United States in early June.

Why Rosalía Won't Be There

Billboard cited Rosalía's consistent boundary-pushing in Spanish-language music as the reason for the award. Her album LUX has become both a commercial success and a cultural touchstone, solidifying her role as a creative leader. Yet the very success of that project—and the tour supporting it—creates the scheduling conflict that keeps her away from the ceremony.

This is not the first time Rosalía has balanced massive tours with major accolades. Her career has been defined by such momentum, from her early work with El Mal Querer to global hits like “Despechá.” The LUX Tour reflects her current stature: a performer who can fill arenas from Barcelona to Berlin.

A Night of Honorees

While Rosalía will be absent, the gala will feature an impressive lineup of award recipients. Young Miko will receive the Unstoppable Award, recognizing her rapid rise in urban music. Becky G will take home the Global Impact Award, Gloria Trevi the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Ivy Queen the Pioneer Award. Together, they represent a broad spectrum of Latin music—from reggaetón and pop to ranchera and hip-hop.

The event underscores how Latin women are reshaping the industry, not just as performers but as producers, songwriters, and cultural architects. Rosalía's absence, while notable, does not diminish the significance of the evening.

For Rosalía, the award adds to a growing list of honors that include multiple Latin Grammys and a Grammy. Her recent singles, such as “La Perla” and her collaboration “New Woman” with LISA, continue to expand her reach beyond Spanish-speaking audiences. Her song “Magick” also appeared in Season 3 of Euphoria, bringing a Spanish-language spark to the hit series.

The Billboard Latin Women in Music awards have become a key platform for celebrating female talent in the industry. This year's ceremony, despite Rosalía's absence, promises to highlight the depth and diversity of Latin music's female voices.
