In Netflix's new limited series I Will Find You, Sam Worthington plays David Burroughs, a man wrongly convicted of murdering his own son. When he discovers his child might still be alive, he orchestrates a risky prison break with the help of his former sister-in-law, journalist Rachel Mills, played by Britt Lower. The duo must navigate a high-stakes escape without any prior experience in life-or-death situations.

Realism as the Foundation of the Mystery

To make the story feel authentic, Worthington and Lower insisted on understanding the smallest everyday details of survival. They questioned producers on how their characters would eat, communicate, or stay hidden while fleeing authorities. This attention to realism, they say, was vital to solving the mystery in a way that resonates with viewers.

“We wanted to know everything—how they’d get food, where they’d sleep, how they’d avoid being seen,” Lower explained in a recent interview. “Those details ground the thriller in a reality that makes the emotional stakes even higher.”

Harlan Coben’s Personal Milestone

Author Harlan Coben, whose novels have been adapted into numerous series, notes that I Will Find You is his first Netflix project developed entirely in the United States. Set in New York and Boston, the story taps into his own emotional connection to those cities. For Coben, the series is more than a fast-paced chase; it’s a deeply American story about a father’s desperate love for his son.

“I’m a father of four, and I channeled my own experiences—especially after losing my father—into this narrative,” Coben said. “It’s about hope and protection, even in the darkest moments.”

A Thriller with Heart

While the plot is an adrenaline-filled thriller, the true engine of the series is hope. When David receives proof that his son might be alive, his pain transforms into an unwavering drive to move forward. Showrunner Robert Hull emphasizes that the main goal is for audiences to connect deeply with the characters as they unravel the truth behind the disappearance.

The chemistry between Worthington and Lower, combined with Coben’s guidance, ensures viewers are drawn in by both the frantic pace and the emotional journey. As the protagonists rebuild their lives while fighting for justice, the series offers a mix of suspense and human drama that promises to be one of the year’s most talked-about TV experiences.
